The prodigal son appears in Luke 15:11-32 in the bible. The story is about how a father left is fortune to the younger of his two sons. The son journeys to a far country, spends his fortune and has wasted it all. When the son comes back to his father he celebrates that he is back and safe. The father did not care that he wasted his money but was happy for him to be alive and back home. The older brother is angry that he serves his father but was not given a goat to share with his friends. The prodigal son is used often to represent not being wasteful and to make smart decisions. There is a TV show for kids called Tyler the Prodigal son. It is about a boy who talks his family into giving him his prize early so that he can have fun. Rappers also use the prodigal son in their music to represent that they have returned. In the song Jump Around by House of pain it states “And just like the prodigal son I’ve returned.” The word prodigal means to spend money or resources freely and recklessly. People use it just the way that is mean and may call them self’s a Prodigal son. The prodigal son can be seen as selfish since he wanted all the fortune. There is also a dance show that acts out the prodigal son without any words, just music. It is called The Prodigal Son performed by Damian Woetzel’s who was the main character.
